We are not designed to be alone. We are not designed to operate on our own for very long. When we do, the complexity inside our head loses its baseline. We become eccentric, at first, and then totally wacky and ineffectual. And all the time we think we are fine.

The social nature of our brain allows it to develop norms that help it improve its functionality. This means that while we may all need some alone time now and then, we only rise as a result of our interaction with others and they with us.
